Long-term experience, successful projects
Desert Timber has more than ten years of experience in growing trees in the desert and converting arid land into a permanent forest. For more than 15 years, the Egyptian government has planted, managed and examined test areas using desert land and pre-treated sewage water in different locations in Egypt to grow trees – all of which was undertaken in cooperation with German national authorities and scientists. The outcome of these test areas, which have already existed for over a decade, clearly demonstrates that a “green desert” is both economically and ecologically feasible.
Together with the key scientists and stakeholders from the Egyptian afforestation programme, ForestFinance has founded Desert Timber. The company consists of a team of experts from the ForestFinance Group and leading scientists from the Technische Universität München (TUM), the Ain Shams University Cairo and the Agricultural Research Center Cairo.
